If companies have access to the most advanced and innovative database (Oracle 11g) for a reasonable price, it makes sense that they would also elect to go with the stack designed to work with it.
ORACLE 11G ENTERPRISE EDITION PRICING SOFTWARE
I really believe that if Oracle makes the database a commodity, they will be THE software company. I was hoping that Oracle would make a bold move with 11g pricing. I grant that Oracle has the best attitude of any commercial database company in making the software freely available for evaluation and learning but the enterprise pricing is painful. I have to admit, I’m kind of disappointed by this news. Is that true? Can anyone verify if DB2 compression is part of the standard database cost? I always felt kind of insulted to have to pay for advanced security and partitioning after paying 40k/cpu for an ENTERPRISE version of a database. I’m pretty sure that DB2 compression, which is quite good, comes with the database. I can almost see having to pay for three of them, but having to pay for advanced compression sucks.
ORACLE 11G ENTERPRISE EDITION PRICING UPDATE
I personally do not think Oracle will give you enough discount for these small number of licenses.I saw a press release on yahoo, Oracle Announces General Availability of Oracle(R) Database 11g. ThiThis is an Oracle Corporation supplied and publicly available EBS backed AMI that includes Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 4 and Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1) Standard Edition - 64 Bit.
Apologies if the documentation is confusing.

Also, if you think that you are not using any enterprise features, you can always go for user based standard edition which will be much cheaper as compare to enterprise.Ģ) You can find some Oracle partners who sells the licenses. No change in licensing - Oracle Text is included with all database editions with no extra license needed.
I believe minimum you need is 10 user based licenses. If you are 3 developers and will be developing on your own databases, you can buy 3 personal editions(same as enterprise edition) OR you can buy an user based enterprise edition for test environment. We are not going to do any changes in Oracle database.ġ) which version is enough my developement of this project either Oracle 11g developer or Enterprise Edition?ġ) There is no developer edition in Oracle.
